Just a quick question

14 10 2008

This isn’t about the markets, it is about the election.  And why not, the markets didn’t rise or drop by 10% so I’m pretty bored.

I’m not sure if you have heard about this ACORN “controversy”, but if you have, can you explain to me why bogus voter registration is a problem?  Last time I checked, registering Micky Freakin’ Mouse doesn’t mean that the rodent is going to show up at the polls and cast a vote.

Can someone please help me with this one?  Perhaps I am missing something.

ACORN is threatening our democracy. We need to deal with them swiftly. All voters need to present some ID at voting due to how ACORN has comprised the integrity of our system. We also need to look at Mr. Obama’s ties to the organization. Very concerning.

Jim, you did not answer my question. Why is ACORN threatening our democracy? Why is it very concerning? If bringing an ID to the voter booth represents a grave threat to our democracy then we really must be in trouble with this credit crisis.

A person must cast a fraudulent vote for voter fraud to exist. A nonexistent person will never be able to vote because the person does not exist.

Jim, thank you for your response and your restraint, but I would appreciate a more logical explanation.

I’m getting some more comments but so far no one has offered any logical explanation. I will not approve any comments that lack logic or verifiable references. I want facts that I can check that shows that fraudulent voter registration leads to fraudulent votes.

Paul,

ACORN does not threaten the voting process. As you noted, fraudulent registration does not equal fraudulent voting.

I saw a piece on CNN this evening about a 23 year old Boston-born Nevada woman who has been notified she cannot vote because the local election board does not belive her to be an American citizen. She has to prove to the election board by Oct. 31st that she is indeed a citizen by providing a certified birth certificate. She is FLYING to Boston to retrieve the document. She indicated in the interview that a Drivers License, payroll records, school records and her Social Security card were not sufficient. She could obtain an US Passport with less.

I have also read accounts of similar happenings in Michigan, ( http://tinyurl.com/69taad) Indiana ( http://tinyurl.com/5xyw6d) Georgia, ( http://tinyurl.com/57hhdz ) the list is as long as there are swing and fringe states.

I’m usually not one for conspiricy theories, however, it is hard for me to believe this is not a strategy to discourage new voters and minority voters. As you know, both groups tend to swing Blue.

THIS is a larger threat to our election system than some guy who wrote down Micky Mouse in an attempt to get an additional $3 commission.

Regards,

Gigi

Thanks for the links Gigi. I agree with you. Acorn is the biggest red herring I have ever seen. I was hoping that they could give some rational explanation but all I got was incoherent rambling.
