Market Monitor Tutorial

Market Monitor Movie

Pradeep Bonde from the Stockbee blog made a reference to a small movie that I put together for my other website, MarketTurbulence.com.  In the tutorial, I explain how the Market Monitor breadth chart is constructed and how I apply it using Blocks 3.1 (soon to be StockFinder).

If you use Blocks, you can download the layout after registering for MarketTurbulence.com.  I also have constructed many of the DeMark indicators, including TD Sequential, TD Combo, TD REI, and TD Pressure.  These required a lot of time and effort and I originally wanted to use them for myself.  Blocks does an excellent job of scanning through charts and is a perfect match for the DeMark indicators.  After receiving many requests, I have made them available over on MarketTurbulence.com.

Recent TD Combo and TD Sequential Buy Signals

11 08 2008

I put together a gallery of charts in the S&P 500 that have signaled TD Combo and Sequential Buys (only the Combo charts are shown).  The only chart that I could find that hasn’t worked was MNST.  The layouts and scans are available at MarketTurbulence.com.

Sequential and Combo Layouts Complete

29 07 2008
Here are what the final TD Sequential and TD Combo layouts will look like for Blocks 3.1.  With these layouts it is possible to scan for every stock, ETF, or index that has either completed a TD Sequential, TD Combo, or both countdowns.  I am now just waiting for the next Blocks release.  Notice how I have stop loss points drawn in only when they are appropriate, which is an improvement from the older version.  I will write up a full discussion on how to use the layouts when I release them on MarketTurbulence.com.

Range Expansion Index

The Range Expansion Index is now available on MarketTurbulence.com.  Go check it out.

I have made the RealCode available and hope that people can learn something by inspecting it.

Trailer ATR based trailing stop

17 07 2008

I added my ATR based trailing stop to MarketTurbulence.com yesterday.  I provided the RealCode along with the chart so you can play with the conditions if you like.  A reader was kind enough to send some real data from Arps’ Trender so I could directly compare the two.  While it seems that there are some differences in the actual values of the stop points, most of my Trailer indicator buy and sell signals match up pretty well with Arps’ Trender.  I will post the actual charts later.

Condo Closing Crisis

29 06 2008

This picture represents the closing of my brand new, custom condo.  The deal exploded just one hour into the meeting and has yet to be resolved.  My wife and I spent today looking for rentals just in case it can’t be salvaged.  I have until tomorrow, after which I will have to refinance the loan and terms are no where near as favorable as they were when I signed the contract.

Needless to say, postings on the NoviceBear.com might be a little sparse in the next couple weeks so I hope I don’t loose any readers.  Please keep checking back, especially since this market it getting exciting again.  (Don’t tell my boss, but I just might have to spend a little time at work contributing to my blog and to MarketTurbulence.com)

MarketTurbulence.com update

11 05 2008

Things are moving along for my site. Sharing code blocks in Blocks 3.0 is not possible at the moment and that would have to be the biggest impediment to my site right now. I could translate things to the RealCode language but this would make the calculations prohibitively slow (RealCode doesn’t seem to handle loops very well). Instead of just setting something up so interested people can download my work, I’m going to have to write up a manual on creating the code blocks and layouts so people can download it. Inside the manual you will have everything you need to get TD Sequential and many of the other indicators working for you. I am also putting together some tutorial videos.  The extra work will be more that worth the time as many of these indicators are only available to Bloomberg terminal users and that costs over $2,000 a month.

I also am having to learn all of the ins and outs of Joomla, the content management system that I’m using to run marketturbulence.com. The e-commerce has been the steepest learning curve.

TD Combo Sell Signal for Crude Oil

11 05 2008

There are a lot of people out there trying to pick the top of oil so I might as well jump into the fray. The two crude oil charts that are shown above are the TD Combo sell signals for the daily and weekly timescales. The daily and weekly have broken the stop loss levels, which shows that crude can still go higher, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just a false breakout (nice hedge, eh?).

I tend to prefer TD Sequential for finding buy points, but I think that TD Combo does a better job of picking tops. Go over to MarketTurbulence.com to see some of the recent TD Combo sell signals that nailed the tops of some equities.
